Effects of this medicine

This medicine has an anti-inflammatory effect on the airways and a long bronchodilator effect by a beta 2 adrenergic receptor stimulating action. This will help to keep you free of attacks or to prevent symptoms.
It is usually used to treat bronchial asthma or Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (chronic bronchitis, pulmonary emphysema). It should not be used to relieve an asthma attack or acute exacerbation of symptom that has already begun.

Before using this medicine, be sure to tell your doctor and pharmacist

  • If you have previously experienced any allergic reactions (itch, rash, etc.) to any medicines.
    If you have: infections or deep mycosis.
  • If you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • If you are taking any other medicinal products. (Some medicines may interact to enhance or diminish medicinal effects. Beware of over-the-counter medicines and dietary supplements as well as other prescription medicines.)

Dosing schedule (How to take this medicine)

  • Your dosing schedule prescribed by your doctor is ((        to be written by a healthcare professional))
  • Bronchial asthma: In general, for adults, use one inhalation at a time, twice a day. This medicine can be replaced with a low-dose formulation (100 Diskus, 50 Aerosol) or a high-dose formulation (500 Diskus, 250 Aerosol) depending on the symptoms. 
    Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (chronic bronchitis, pulmonary emphysema): In general, for adults, use one inhalation at a time, twice a day.
    In any case, strictly follow the instructions.
  • Try to inhale this medicine at the same time each day.
  • Read the instruction leaflet for users thoroughly before using this medicine. (Japanese version only)
  • To prevent oral candidiasis and/or hoarse voice, gargle the throat after inhaling. (If gargling is difficult, rinse out your mouth.)
  • If you miss a dose, inhale the missed dose as soon as possible. However, do not inhale this medicine more than twice a day. You should never inhale two doses at one time.
  • If you accidentally inhale more than your prescribed dose, consult with your doctor or pharmacist.
  • Do not stop inhaling this medicine unless your doctor instructs you to do so.

Precautions while taking this medicine

  • When you experience an asthma attack, take prescribed medicine for stopping an attack, or visit a healthcare facility as soon as possible.

Possible adverse reactions to this medicine

The most commonly reported adverse reactions include oral/respiratory candidiasis, hoarseness (hoarse voice), irritation in the mouth or throat (abnormal feeling, pain, uncomfortable feeling), infections, muscle cramp and pneumonia. If any of these symptoms occur, consult with your doctor or pharmacist.
The symptoms described below are rarely seen as initial symptoms of the adverse reactions indicated in brackets. If any of these symptoms occur, stop taking this medicine and see your doctor immediately.
  • respiratory distress, hives, cold sweat [shock, anaphylaxis]
  • muscle weakness, paralysis of limbs, rapid pulse [low serum potassium level]
  • fever, cough, shortness of breath [pneumonia]
The above symptoms do not describe all the adverse reactions to this medicine. Consult with your doctor or pharmacist if you notice any symptoms of concern other than those listed above.

Storage conditions and other information

  • Keep out of reach of children. Store away from direct sunlight, heat and moisture.
  • Discard the remainder. Do not store them.
